Hello Everyone! I did not have a lot of access to a computer over here so I am sorry not to have kept you up to date. It has been mild and rainy often–pretty typical English weather. I spent the first couple of days helping my daughter unpack her tidy her house because she only recently moved in. She lives in a small village called Furness Vale. If you have access to Google Earth, you can type in post cose SK23 7PF and see her neighborhood. It is really lovely with hills full of sheep all around. THere is a train that goes right through town and she can take that to get into her workplace in Manchester. It takes about 15 minutes. Lots of people use trains and busses in England to get around which is a good idea. I wish we had more public transportation in the states like that. Thanks for you comments, I have read them all. We also spent a day at a farmer’s market in a tiny town called Wetherby, England, close to York. There are beautiful old buildings there. Yesterday we spent the day in Stockton, near Manchester, shopping for shoes for my grandson, Stuart. This is a big city with skyscrapers etc., but they also had a “village market” areas where small booths are set up like a flea market or yard sale. Today we are going to Castleton, a lovely medieval village not to far from Furness Vale. Oh, I forgot to mention that there is a canal that runs right past my daughter’s house and there are many colorfully painted canal boats that people actually live on. You can see dogs sleeping on the top of the roofs of the boats, and smoke coming out of the chimneys. Many people just sail up and down the canal, pull up to the side and get out and fish when they want to make dinner. It was very neat to see and we spoke to several people who live on the boats. Most seemed to be retired people just enjoying the life! See you all soon, hope you have enjoyed your vacation.
Trip to England
Hi Geckos!
I will be flying to England to visit my daughter and her family during February break. I hope to write about it and send pictures. You are welcome to add your comments or questions.
